General Craig transferred to the Headquarters of the 56th Mechanized Infantry Brigade in 1992, where he served four years as executive officer and four years as commander. During his command tenure the 56th Brigade earned the Governor’s Meritorious Unit Citation, was selected as the best brigade in the entire Army National Guard and was designated to become the nation’s only reserve component Stryker Brigade Combat Team. Following his command, General Craig was transferred to the Headquarters of the 28th Infantry Division in 2000, and recalled to active duty, wherein he served three years as deputy commander, followed by three years as commanding general.
During his division command tenure, the 28th Division mobilized and deployed over 8,000 Soldiers to the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo and to combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, the Division HQ deployed to a multinational training mission in Egypt known as “Bright Star”. General Craig commanded 14,000 troops from eight nations in this high visibility exercise. He also conducted command visits to his forces forward-deployed in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan in 2003-2005.
General Craig’s Awards and Military decorations include: Army Distinguished Service Medal; Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal (fourth award); Army Commendation Medal (second award); Army Achievement Medal; Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (seventh award); National Defense Service Medal (third award); Global War on Terror Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal (third award); Army Service Ribbon; Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon (fifth award); Pennsylvania Distinguished Service Medal; Pennsylvania Meritorious Service Medal (second award); Pennsylvania Service Ribbon (sixth award); Pennsylvania Twenty-Year Service Ribbon (fourth award); Major General Thomas R. White Jr. Medal; General Thomas J. Stewart Medal; the Governor’s Unit Citation; and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Spirit of Volunteerism Award.

General Craig is married to the former Marda Phelps. They reside in Annville, PA. They have two children, son, Matt, and daughter, Joy. |
